What job will it do?

Start with a real task, not the tool's headline. Describe what takes time today, who does it and what a better result would look like.

What information will it touch?

Check what you would need to enter or connect. Keep passwords and private customer, staff, student and citizen records out of an experiment unless your organisation has approved that use.

How will you check its output?

An answer can sound certain and still be wrong. Decide what source or human review will confirm it before the result reaches a customer, learner or decision maker.

What will it cost to keep using?

Look beyond the first trial. Account for licenses, setup, review time, maintenance and the work needed to train people.

Can you test it on one bounded task?

Pick a small example with a clear success measure. Compare it with the current process, note the failures and decide whether to expand, change course or stop.
